Martin Electric brought AM Metal a mounting bracket for a commercial pump system and asked us to reproduce it. There were no drawings supplied with the job—just the existing part.
Our team used that sample to develop a drawing and fabricate matching brackets in 316L stainless steel. What began as a request for one bracket became a two-piece run once we worked through the material purchasing.
The facility already had two dust collectors supplied by another vendor. Our work centered on the ductwork connecting the collection equipment to the work areas.
The layout included seven workstations where employees deburr and sand castings by hand. Each station called for a backdraft hood. An eighth connection served a sandblasting machine used to clean the parts.
We planned the ductwork in advance of equipment placement. Working from the intended workstation locations and marked drop positions, we laid out where the main ducts would run and where each branch needed to come down.
That meant thinking through the installation from the overhead routing all the way to the individual connections.
Material purchasing was a significant part of this project.
A bracket might use only a short length of flat bar or channel, but we still have to purchase the available stock quantities. Those purchasing requirements affect the cost of a small fabrication run.
The customer originally wanted one bracket. Once we accounted for the stainless material we needed to buy, the cost to build two was approximately the same as the cost to build one. We ended up making two matching brackets from the original sample.
The photograph shows all three assemblies together: the original at the back and AM Metal’s two reproductions in front.
The feedback Jeremy relayed was straightforward: the brackets worked like a charm.
A physical sample can be a useful starting point when you need a custom part reproduced. If you have a bracket or another fabricated component you need duplicated, bring it to AM Metal. We can discuss the material, fit, and quantity your project requires.
